How to make traditional Sri Lankan Love Cake


Who doesn’t love LOVE CAKE. This cake is mainly made in sri lanka for christmas. Though most of the people love this cake they have no idea how to make it. Most of the people who make this love cake not willing to share the recipe.

Below i have given step by step guild lines on how to make the traditional sri lankan love cake.


  • Semolina – 250g
  • Large Eggs – 5 ( If eggs are small then take 6)
  • Sugar – 230g
  • Honey – 5-6 Tbsp
  • Butter – 230g
  • Almond essence – 1/2 tsp
  • Rose essence – 1/2 tsp
  • Spice Powder – 1 tsp ( Cinnamon, Cardamom, Nutmeg)
  • Cashew – 125g
  • Pumpkin Preserve – 30-50g (Adjust as per your taste)
  • Lemon Zest – 1 tsp


  • Preheat the oven to 160 C and line a baking tray with baking paper (grease the paper with butter)
  • Dry roast the semolina & once its roasted add the cold butter to the semolina & mix it. Leave until the butter get melt & incorporate with the semolina
  • Grind the cashews coarsely & keep
  • Separate the egg yolks & egg white
  • Beat the sugar & egg yolks until the mixture get pale in color
  • Add lemon zest, honey, spice powder, rose essence, almond essence & mix it well
  • Add the¬†coarsely grinded cashews & pumpkin preserve & again mix it well
  • Add the semolina & butter mixture & again mix it well. Do not over beat
  • In a separate bowl beat the egg whites until it reached soft peak
  • add the egg whites little by little to the cake mixture & fold it well or beat in low speed until all get combined. Do not over beat it
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 1-1 1/2 hours or until the toothpick comes out clean. Keep on eye after 1 hours.
  • Let the cake cool completely in and dust with icing sugar if preferred. Cut into squares and serve
